Start the personalisation journey on a tablet in store.
A tablet-led retail experience connecting digital personalisation with the physical production of customised Nutella products across Debenhams stores.
Creating the customer-facing experience was only one part of the challenge. The complete process had to operate reliably within a tightly controlled retail environment and ultimately produce a physical personalised product in store.
Software, store processes, printing equipment, media and colour all had to work together as one joined-up experience.
The experience connected the customer interaction on the tablet with the operational steps needed to turn their personalisation into a finished product.

Add the details needed to create the customer's personalised product.
Prepare the personalisation for the controlled in-store production workflow.
Produce consistent, colour-managed output using individually configured printers.
Complete the in-store process and create the finished personalised product.
Delivering the experience meant looking beyond the interface and considering the environment in which every part of the solution had to operate.
Designed to operate within the controls and practical constraints of a large retail store estate.
A straightforward customer experience built around the operational process happening behind it.
Each in-store printer was individually configured, with colour management tuned for consistent output across the rollout.
The solution was rolled out across 70 Debenhams stores for Christmas, bringing together the tablet workflow and in-store production process as a single retail personalisation experience.
The service was subsequently used again in the following year, extending the life of the original solution beyond its initial rollout.
This project brought together interface design, software development, retail operations, print production and colour management — all within the constraints of a live national retail environment.
It’s a good example of how we approach digital projects: understanding what needs to happen beyond the interface, then designing the technology around the real-world process it has to support.
If your project needs software, systems and real-world processes to work together, let's talk about how we can make the whole thing connect.
